Wild Fox Sangha

The Wild Fox sangha is a small and welcoming group led by Treetop’s senior teacher and spiritual director, Peter Seishin Wohl. In addition to being a teacher in the White Plum lineage, Peter is deeply committed to eco-Dharma — protecting the environment and developing an intimate connection to the natural world. He is also a Registered Maine Guide who periodically leads eco-Dharma workshops and experiences.

Wild Fox meets weekly via Zoom at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays (click here to join the Sunday Wild Fox Zoom meeting). Since we are mostly online, we have the benefit of being able to include anyone, anywhere. Regular participants have Zoomed in from locations spanning from Maine to Florida and Arizona to Thailand. In summer, we schedule two in-person meetings in Maine locations such as Portland. Wild Fox sangha members are also encouraged to attend any of the four annual sesshins at Treetop Zen Center, which are held in person and over Zoom. Click here for the current year’s events and retreats.

Our Zoom meetings start with chanting the Gatha of Atonement, followed by a period of zazen (Zen meditation). Peter Wohl then gives a talk (often focused on a particular koan and regularly addressing challenges we face in our daily lives). A discussion follows Peter’s talk, at which time participants are welcome to explore the subjects raised. We end with chanting the Four Great Vows. Click here for the gathas.

Peter offers regular daisan (face-to-face teaching) to anyone who asks to engage in this essential aspect of Zen study. Daisan is done online and scheduled individually. We also offer precept study and priestly ordination for those whose practice is maturing and who wish to deepen and formalize their relationship with the Dharma.
